The sky has never been empty. Every civilization that kept records kept records of things that came from it. Gods for the Sumerians. Angels and Watchers for the Hebrew prophets. Daemons for the Greeks, jinn for the Arabs, faeries for the Celts, unidentified anomalous phenomena for the United States Navy. The witnesses testified in the vocabulary each of them had. What they described has more in common than the vocabularies do.

The record does not collapse into a single story. Ezekiel did not see what the naval aviators saw. The medieval Irish did not meet the same thing the Arabian jinn tradition preserves. A century of ufology has tried to force these accounts into one explanation and has produced a shelf of books that each explain part of the record by ignoring the rest.

Nonhuman reads them together. What emerges is not a hidden visitor wearing different costumes for different centuries. It is plurality. More than one nonhuman intelligence has been present in the human record for four thousand years.
